Animal Therapies Ltd (ATL) supports the most vulnerable who are at risk of falling through the cracks with no means of accessing mental health support and have walked away from mainstream talk therapy.

Currently we are receiving more requests for help than ever before.

Sadly, we’ve had to put a temporary hold on any funding applications until we have the money to support more applicants.

Mental illness:

· can affect anyone and is a growing health issue in Australia

· takes many forms such as depression, anxiety, PTS, psychosocial; it can stem from trauma including domestic/family violence/ abuse, significant weather events

· can cause distress, affect your thoughts, mood, behavior, how you cope with work, relationships, day to day tasks and living

· can last for a short time or be a lifelong disability

· 1 in every 5 Australians will experience a mental illness in their lifetime

Your donation will have a positive impact on someone’s health and wellbeing.

It costs on average $1,000 to support the mental health & well-being of one person? This will fund approximately 6 sessions with a suitably qualified animal-assisted services practitioner.

With your support today, ATL will be able to assist more people in need to connect with animal-assisted services.

These services may assist recipients to become more self-reliant, able to thrive and improve their life by providing tools to prevent and/or manage mental illness, disability, disease and suffering.

Your extraordinary support is the key to helping individuals experiencing disability and illness to access the help and services they need to actively engage with their community and within their everyday life.

Animal Therapies Ltd (ATL) is a national health promotion charity and is the lead organisation for the animal-assisted services sector.

ATL raises money to fund those who do not have the financial means to access animal-assisted mental health services and provides funding for vulnerable and at risk individuals, including children and teenagers, to get the help they need.

The animal-assisted servcies sector is made up of qualified practitioners who work alongside an animal in the delivery of mental health support services to assist a person feel safe, accelerating the rapport building process.

ATL’s mental health outreach program, connects recipients to fully funded animal-assisted mental health support. If the origin of a person’s traumatic experiences is human in nature then it may be difficult to feel safe in human interactions. Good mental health relies on safe human connections. Animal-assisted therapists help to rebuild those safe connections.

When actively engaged in the therapy process, a practitioner can help an individual to learn the tools to become more self-reliant, to help manage mental illness, disability, disease and suffering, enabling them to improve their quality of life.

For individuals with complex mental health conditions such as those who have experienced trauma or abuse, engaging one-on-one with an unfamiliar adult in a clinical setting can be intolerable and distressing.

Research has shown the benefits of animal-assisted services.
